“for every door that closes
a window will open”
The Challenge: An interactive Installation made from recycled materials, walked onto the island, which has a life after the Figment 2009 Festival.
The Result: “for every door that closes a window will open” an Interactive Installation created with 12 reclaimed windows from an artists home in New Jersey, a reused rope from the Brooklyn shore, and screws leftover from The Windmill Factory loft redesign. The Journey began with 12 windows being transported via subway by 6 people from Brooklyn to a massive shade tree by the water at Picnic Point, Governors Island.
The windows were hung at various heights under the tree. One window was mounted near the trunk of the tree as a desk with face paint markers, white out, and lipstick to draw or write your thoughts on the windows.
Some of our favorites…
“better to have jumped out the window than be locked in the room,”
“in a New York minute everything can change”
“in case of bad writing break glass”
At the conclusion of the Festival the windows were given away to guests waiting for the ferry to take with them as a souvenier from the Festival. The windows went into a teenagers room in New Jersey, a rock and roller’s apartment in Williamsburgh, and a college dorm room in Boston. To name a few.
