PARK PORCH
PARK PORCH
Acts of creation are ordinarily reserved for gods and poets, but humbler folk may circumvent this restriction if they know how. To plant a pine, for example, one need be neither god nor poet; one need only own a good shovel. By virtue of this curious loophole in the rules, any clodhopper may say: Let there be a tree—and there will be one.
Aldo Leopold. Sand County Almanac
Park Porch offers silent comfort within the harsh desert landscape of Burning Man 2010, “Metropolis”. Structural plexi-glass sandwiches a photographic print of green treetops in a deep forest. Green grass below invites the visitor to enter below. This deep forest contrasts the desert landscape inviting people to take refuge within the oasis. During the day, sunlight passes through the image providing a shaded dabbled light below. At night, LEDs twinkle to illuminate the trees from below as if fire flies are highlighting the trees. One can walk/sit/lay on top of the trees casting a shadow for persons inhabiting below. The low walls block the wind and dust making this a key destination for deep playa.
